C1 Online Conversation Club

Course Length

90-minute sessions

Each week, we will discuss a new topic which students will discuss amongst themselves in pairs in break out rooms. 

Sometimes a video will be watched or an article read before the discussion begins.  

New vocabulary will be introduced and grammar points explained when necessary.

Cost: CHF 30.00 per session

Feel more confident speaking English.

Those who may not be able to commit to a long-term course but looking for a way to practice their English conversational skills with the support of a teacher.

Optional grammar and vocabulary exercises will be given as homework assignments for those looking for a greater challenge.

Grammar In Use 4th Edition by Raymond Murphy + TBS Grammar Handbook

This course will go over key grammar points that brings learners to the next level.  . 

Clear and simple explanations will be provided along with examples of their use.  Interactive speaking exercises will be organized between students who will be encouraged to apply lessons learned immediately through games and conversational sessions. 

The grammar points that will be reviewed during this 10-week course will be:

1) the difference between Past Simple and Present Perfect Simple

2) the difference between Present Perfect Simple and Continuous Forms

3) The 0, 1st, 2nd and 3rd conditionals

 

Cost: CHF 300.00 + cost of Grammar in Use and The TBS Grammar Handout (CHF 10.00) 

Student should be able to ask and answer common interview questions and support their arguments with sound reasoning using hypothetical and cause + effect reasoning.

Students who have at least a B1+ level understanding of English and are familiar with conditionals and perfect tenses but are unsure how to use them properly.

High Scorer’s Choice: Set 1 and The Boston School’s Speaking & Writing Handout for IELTS Academic

This course will focus on the writing and speaking tasks of the IELTS Academic Test only.  Students who wish to take part in this course need to complete a Reading, Listening and Writing sample test of the IELTS Academic Test.

Cost: CHF 360.00 + cost of materials

For Writing Task 1 / Academic:

  • 1) How to view data to find main overall trends
  • 2) How to categorize and group data into sub-trends
  • 3) How to concisely compare trends by using key phrases to connect ideas

For Writing Task 2 / Academic:

  • 1) How to formulate ideas before writing
  • 2) How to write an appropriate introduction and conclusion
  • 3) How to carefully connect all ideas to the essay question.

For Speaking Tasks 1-3:

  • 1) Understand the requirements for each task
  • 2) Learn how to include the right amount of details in the amount of time alloted for each task
  • 3) Feel more confident on the test day so that nerves are under control
