Grammar Lessons in Mini-Booklets

After creating many supplementary materials as handouts for our face-to-face classes over the years, The Boston School’s founder Rose has decided to make her work available online in the form of mini-booklets.

What will be different about them?

These mini-booklets will cover one main grammar point at a time.  So, for example, rather than offering 10 advanced level grammar topics in one mini-booklet, we will thoroughly cover only one  grammar point from beginning to end.  Chapters will be divided into levels (A1 to B2 for example) and learners can work gradually from the foundation upwards.

Before you get started on a particular grammar point, we encourage learners to first take a “Spot the Mistakes”quiz to find out where learning gaps, if any, need to be filled in.  The first one:  Spot the Mistakes: Present Tenses is now ready.

The mini-booklets will also provide communicative activities meant for use with a teacher.  This will allow for flexibility in how the booklet can be used as a self-study course or be adapted to a blended learning course with teacher-student interaction opportunities in real time.

Why will they be designed this way?

There are at least 4 reasons why we wanted to design our grammar lessons this way:

  1. Many advanced learners need to take time to review some basic grammar rules before they can master the more difficult ones they may be using.  By working through our booklet from start to finish, they can fill in the missing gaps in their knowledge and see great results in a short time.
  2.  The same booklet can be used for various members of the same family.  Instead of buying 3 books for 3 people at 3 different levels, it can be shared amongst all family members. Each person can use the section most applicable to their own needs.
  3. These mini-booklets should also be useful for beginner students who wish to learn more on their own, one step at a time.
  4. The interactive activities added for student-teacher lessons activate students’ newly found understanding putting into practice when speaking or writing about their own situations. No answer key can be made available as answers will vary from student to student. Additional 1 or 2 online private lessons are highly recommended in order to boost your learning process.

Would you like to be part of our beta group?

Although these materials will be compiled mostly of ready-made handouts, there will be additional explanations and exercises that will need to be created to make each mini-booklet complete.

To ensure the material is top quality, we would like to form a group of beta users to try out our material before we make them available to the wider public.

I am currently working on the first one that focuses on the different uses between the Present Simple vs. Present Continuous (Present Progressive).

If  you are interested in working with me, please fill out the Beta Group Member Application Form, so we can send you the first chapter of the Present Simple vs. Present Continuous Mini-Booklet to you.

Only a few students will be able to work with us one mini-booklet at a time, so if you missed out on your chance to work on the first mini-booklet, you may be contacted for a later one.
